Artificial Intelligence

In this relatively young and fast changing industry, we are proud to be associated with some of the most cutting edge research groups and companies on the planet.

We believe that we are one of the few sector specialist recruiters in this space worldwide and we have an immense amount of pride in the work we deliver within the sector.

Since the summer of 2014, we have been continually expanding our network across academia, research and industry. Through the development of a number of key partnerships, we have been afforded the pleasure of witnessing the exponential growth of deep learning first-hand and in-turn, assisted many firms expand with key acquisitions of world-class talent.

Our client list has expanded across a number of vertical markets including: Research Laboratories, Healthcare/Medical Imaging, Insurance, Finance, AR/VR/MR, Autonomous Cars, Wearables, Education, Security, Transport, Engineering, VFX, Machine Vision, Gaming and beyond.

Some of our clients have raised the biggest rounds of VC–led investment in the past few years and have also become household names after well publicised buy-outs or IPOs

It is pertinent to note that the majority of our clients encourage staff to publish research and all of them will encourage research staff to participate at NIPS, ICML,CVPR, ICLR, ICCV, ECCV, TPAMI, MICCAI etc.

Our core areas of hiring are: Research Scientists, Research Engineers and Software Engineers.

Machine Learning: Whilst the more ‘classical’ side of Machine Learning isn’t gaining as many column inches or hyperbolic Twitter posts as more recent heavily VC-invested branches of AI, it is not lost on us (or our clients) the importance of a sound and fundamental understanding of Machine Learning. A large portion of our clients look for demonstrable skills across areas such as: Statistics/Probabilities, SVMs, Decision Trees, Random Forests, Clustering, Bayesian Networks (Naïve & non-Naïve, Logistic Regression, Stochastic Control etc…

Deep Learning: Since the recognition of cats in YouTube videos, Deep Learning has grown far beyond the level envisaged years ago from a lab in Toronto. Whilst it has become characterised as a buzz-word by some, the developments since 2012 have been undeniably impressive. The percentage of Deep Learning papers at leading conferences may not be at a sustainable level, but, there are many important and exciting developments yet to happen that will change the world as we know it. The most popular areas of interest for our clients are typically CNNs, RNNs, LSTMs, DBNs, LSTMs, DQNs, but, they all remain focussed on staying abreast of state-of-the-art developments and their staff are expected to read the latest research output across conferences, journals and arXiv. TensorFlow is currently highly desired, but, many of our clients also use Caffe, Torch, Theano, Keras…

Computer Vision: ‘Allowing our computers to see’ – a few years ago a client kindly simplified this field for us that was rather alien at the time. Unbeknownst to us, this market would develop into a key-field for Westbourne Partners as a firm and our main area of client/candidate development. We are fortunate to work with clients that utilise everything from Image Processing/Video Processing, Medical Imaging, ADAS, Object Detection/Recognition, Tracking, Multi-View Geometry, Segmentation, Extraction, Compression, Enhancement etc. In turn, our client portfolio covers 2D/3D Images/Videos

A key theme for our business is helping individuals move from academia (whether recent PhD graduate or Post-Doc Researcher) into the commercial world; either within a well-known global brand-name with huge ML research groups, or to ground-breaking and disruptive start-ups. This transition is rarely easy and we pride ourselves on helping people make this transition.

Additionally, we move experienced (and often very senior) professionals from company to company. While we enjoy experiencing many of our candidates’ often huge enthusiasm for their respective product and research, we recognise that sometimes there is a professional or personal reason to move. In this regard our knowledge of the industry and our extensive client list can be invaluable.
